SAP Implementation And Its Impact On Strategy Making In H R Department Of A Firm: An Empirical Study | Artee Aggrawal & R. Gopal

Fast adaptation to the technological innovations is the key mantra of success in the IT leaded economy today. Companies are striving towards lean management to optimise the resources and human capital using information technology as a tool. SAP is one such software, many companies are using, to transform the work place. A preliminary study was conducted to assess the efficiency of this IT tool in optimisation of resources in HR department. In this study, it was found that ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) – SAP HCM (Human Capital Management) implementation in the HR department was associated with managers getting freed (relatively) with mundane implementation activities. It was proposed that this freed time could be utilised in engaging members of an organisation in doing more analysis (rational mode of SMP (Strategy Making Process), in participative activities (Symbolic and transactive SMP) and enables them to, become more proactive and, take risks (generative SMP).
